Abstract
Intensive technogenic load on the soil environment in the areas of operation of coal mining enterprises leads to the accumulation of potentially toxic elements, in particular heavy metals, in soils
and rocks. These elements are characterized by high ecological stability, the ability to actively migrate,
which as a result has a negative impact on biota, biogeochemical processes in soils and the functioning of
ecosystems in general. In this regard, it is relevant to carry out ecotoxicological assessment of the content
of heavy metals in substrates located in the immediate vicinity of waste heaps. This allows us to establish
the level of pollution, spatial heterogeneity of technogenic pressure and to form scientifically sound approaches to the ecological rehabilitation of disturbed territories.
