Abstract
The military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 2014 and has been particularly aggravated since 2022, has caused large-scale environmental consequences. One of the most vulnerable natural components in the conditions of hostilities is the soil cover, which ensures land fertility, ecosystem productivity, water balance and is the basis for the country's food security. In modern conditions, the problem of soil degradation as a result of hostilities has acquired not only scientific, but also acute practical importance, since the restoration of agriculture, ecosystems and territories depends on the state of land resources. The report analyzes typical biophysical and chemical changes that occur in soils as a result of explosions, the movement of military equipment, fires and contamination with explosive residues. The main mechanisms for protecting and improving the state of nature in Ukraine due to hostilities are identified.
